Protein S

Protein S is a vitamin K dependent glycoprotein produced in the endothelium. It is important in anticoagulation because it acts as a cofactor in the activation of Protein C (see Protein C). Protein S deficiency, caused by a mutation in the PROS1 gene, is rare but can lead to an increased risk of thrombosis.
