Washed blood products

Saline rinse of cellular blood products, such as platelets and packed red blood cells, to remove residual plasma. The process delays how quickly a blood product can be made available for transfusion, is costly, and can diminish the overall quality/functionality of the component, but may be necessary in select clinical scenarios.
