Eculizumab

Brand name: Soliris is a recombinant monoclonal antibody directed against complement protein C5. It inhibits the cleavage of C5 by C5 convertase which prevents the generation of the membrane attack complex, C5b-C9. Eculizumab is used to treat paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) which is a disease characterized by complement-mediate intravascular hemolysis. This drug has also been used to treat certain Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS) cases.
