Serum Protein Electrophoresis is a method that is used to separate and quantitate the different protein components of blood. One of these include the immunoglobulins, and when an M-spike (Monoclonal immunoglobulin band) is seen in this region on the gel, the amount of this potential clonal M-spike is quantitated by this method. Further charcaterization of this clone is done by IFE.
