Flow cytometry

In the blood bank, flow cytometry can be used as a complementary or replacement test for red cell immunology, including RBC-bound immunoglobulins and red cell antigens.Flow cytometry has been used to accurately identify and phenotype the recipient’s red cells. Flow cytometry is being used increasingly in the blood bank to assess leukocyte contamination in leukocyte-reduced blood products.
