HTLV

Also known as human T-cell lymphotropic virus (types I/II). These are retroviruses that cause a T-cell proliferation. HTLV-I has been associated with adult T-cell leukemia and a progressive myelopathy. The virus is screened for during donor infectious disease screening using an enzyme immunoassay. The risk of transmission through blood transfusion is roughly 1 in 3 million.
