Human leukocyte antigen

Also known as HLA. Represent a complex of genes located on chromosome 6 whose gene products are involved with immune functions, especially the ability of cells in the body to recognize self and non-self antigens. HLAs are very relevant in the context of proper donor selection for organ transplants and can be an immune-mediated cause of a poor response to platelet transfusions.
