Human platelet antigens

These are polymorphisms in platelet antigens and can stimulate production of alloantibodies in recipients of transfused platelets from donors with different HPAs. These antibodies can cause neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia, post-transfusion purpura and some cases of platelet transfusion refractoriness due to infusion of donor platelets.
