Leukocyte-reduced

Leukocytes reduced whole blood and blood components by using filters have been shown to reduce the following: recurrent febrile, non-hemolytic transfusion reaction, alloimmunization to leukocyte antigens that may complicate care of patients who undergo transplantation or chronic transfusion therapy, and transmission of cytomegalovirus (CMV) to patients at increased risk of CMV disease. Leukocyte reduction is not considered appropriate for the prevention of transfusion-associated graft-versus-host disease.
