Sickle cell disease

Transfusion therapy is a key intervention in decreasing morbidity and mortality in patients with sickle cell disease. Despite the recognized benefits of transfusion therapy, it is not without the risks of iron overload, alloimmunization, and delayed hemolytic transfusion reactions.
