Hemophilia A

An inherited X-linked bleeding disorder resulting from Factor VIII deficiency. It is the most common form of hemophilia. Symptoms vary depending on the severity and can include hemarthrosis, hematuria, epistaxis, bruising, and prolonged bleeding from cuts or tooth extraction. Typically the patient will have an elevated PTT and normal PT and bleeding time. Serum level of Factor VIII is also decreased. Treatment includes replacement of Factor VIII.
