Thrombopoietin

A protein (hormone) produced by the liver and kidney that stimulates production and differentiation of megakaryocytes and ultimately stimulates the production of more platelets. Note: "Thrombo" refers to platelets and "-poietin" refers to its ability to stimulate production.
